6. Remove Wind and Unblock Meridians

The Su Wen, in the chapter "Discussion on Fever," says, "Patients with kidney wind have a huge swelling on their face and head." The Su Wen, in the chapter "Discussion on Normal Human Appearance," says, "Swelling on the face is called wind, while swelling on the legs is called water." Clearly, ancient people had already linked "wind" with edema. Here, "wind" refers not only to external wind but also to internal wind. In clinical practice, the author often adds chuan tui, jiang can, di long, bai ci li, and other wind-removing and meridian-unblocking herbs to the prescription for treating chronic nephritis, which often has a good effect on improving proteinuria. Modern medicine considers this disease to be an allergic reaction, and such diseases are often linked to the traditional Chinese medicine concept of "wind." Based on this, using the wind-removing and meridian-unblocking method to treat chronic nephritis should be a topic for further exploration in the future.
