1. Soothe the Liver and Regulate Qi

Since liver qi stagnation is the root cause of this disease, soothing the liver and regulating qi should be the primary therapeutic approach. Clinical evidence shows that the discomfort in the hypochondrium and flank is often the main source of suffering for patients; once the pain subsides, their spirits, appetite, and overall condition often improve dramatically. The main formula used is Chaihu Shugan San, composed of Bupleurum, Citrus Aurantium, White Peony, Licorice, Costus, and Sichuan Pepper, which simultaneously promotes qi circulation, softens the liver, and invigorates blood, thus achieving the effect of relieving liver-related pain. Adding ingredients such as Agarwood and Cardamom further enhances the efficacy.
