Forgetfulness

Forgetfulness refers to suddenly forgetting things, despite strenuous efforts to recall them, often resulting in actions and words lacking coherence, with the main issue affecting the heart and spleen meridians. The heart is responsible for thinking, and the spleen is also involved in thinking, both due to excessive thinking, which depletes heart blood and causes the spirit to lose focus; meanwhile, the spleen becomes fatigued and the willpower weakens, both of which can lead to sudden forgetfulness. The treatment must first nourish heart blood and regulate spleen qi, using agents that consolidate the spirit and stabilize the will. It is also important to provide a quiet environment to minimize distractions, gradually restoring peace of mind, with Guipi Tang as the primary treatment. For those with excessive heart fire, the fire disturbs the spirit, requiring Qinghuo Ningxin, with Tianwang Bu Xin Dan as the treatment. Additionally, when phlegm accumulates in the pericardium, blocking the heart's openings and causing mental confusion, with frequent memory lapses, Wen Dan Tang combined with Jinbo Zhenxin Wan and Zhusha Anshen Wan with Longgu, Yuanzhi, Changpu, Fushen, and Chao Huang Dan are recommended. Patients with blood loss often have qi and blood deficiency, making them prone to phlegm and fire, and thus more likely to experience forgetfulness. Furthermore, when there is blood stasis in the heart, it also leads to

Forgetfulness, as described in the "Inner Canon," when blood is low, it behaves like a wild beast, while when blood is high, it tends to forget easily. The reason people don't forget is because their spirits are clear. What exactly is the spirit? It's like several points of blood in the heart, clear and luminous, enabling one to see things clearly. When blood is high, it becomes murky and obscures vision. For patients with blood loss who suddenly experience forgetfulness, there is often blood stasis, so Xuefu Zhuyu Tang with Yu Jin and Changpu, or Zhusha Anshen Wan with Taoren, Danpi, Yu Jin, and Yuanzhi, can be used for treatment.

[Commentary] This condition primarily affects the heart and spleen meridians; when heart blood is depleted, the spirit loses focus, and when the spleen becomes fatigued, the willpower weakens. Both can lead to sudden forgetfulness, known as forgetfulness. The primary treatment is Guipi Tang, which addresses both the heart and spleen. For those with excessive heart fire, Tianwang Bu Xin Dan is recommended; for those with phlegm accumulating in the pericardium, Wen Dan Tang, Jinbo Zhenxin Wan, and Zhusha Anshen Wan are suggested; for those with blood stasis, Xuefu Zhuyu Tang is recommended.
