The "Tingli Dazao Lung-Clearing Soup" clears water from the lungs, while this formula clears fire from the lungs. The lungs belong to the metal element and do not generate fire on their own; rather, they are affected by heart fire and stomach fire. Therefore, gardenia and forsythia are used to clear heart fire, and scutellaria and rhubarb are used to clear stomach fire. When the lungs are filled with fire, the skin and hair become dry and flaky, so peppermint is used to moisten them. When lung metal is not clear, the water pathways become imbalanced, so mulberry bark is used to drain the excess water. Excessive fire means excessive qi, so citrus peel, platycodon, and apricot kernel are used to facilitate qi flow. Meanwhile, ginseng and licorice replenish earth to generate metal, maintaining balance. This formula combines both clearing and tonifying, achieving perfect harmony, essentially adapting the "Tingli Dazao Soup" to focus on clearing fire rather than water. Any upper-jiao blood stasis or phlegm congestion caused by fire can be treated by adjusting the formula accordingly.

[Comment] This formula originates from "Jufang." It clears excess fire in the lungs. Anyone experiencing upper-jiao blood stasis or phlegm congestion caused by fire can use this formula with appropriate adjustments.
