Chen Xiuyuan said: The character for “heart” in ancient seal script is simply a flame turned upside down. Fire doesn’t want to blaze upward, so prepared and raw rehmannia are used to replenish water, allowing water and earth to meet in the heart; polygala, salvia, and two asparagus plants are used to guide fire downward to the kidneys; additionally, ginseng and cloud fungus are used to harmonize heart qi, angelica to generate heart blood, jujube seeds to calm the mind, polygala to release stagnation, schisandra to gather scattered qi, and platycodon to act as a guide for floating qi. Once the heart is nourished, why would there be forgetfulness, palpitations, dry body fluids, tongue ulcers, or constipation?
[Comment] This formula originates from “World Medical Effective Formulas.” It nourishes the kidneys, nurtures the heart, and calms the spirit. It’s the main formula for treating advanced stages of blood disorders, characterized by heart-kidney disharmony and blood deficiency combined with excessive fire.
