Ginseng 3 qian, white atractylodes 3 qian, cloud fungus 3 qian, licorice 2 qian, tangerine peel 3 qian, pinellia 3 qian.

The Four Gentlemen Soup nourishes the stomach and middle jiao, adding tangerine peel and pinellia to eliminate phlegm and qi. The reason why the lungs have phlegm and drink is that water in the stomach doesn’t flow properly, leading to reverse flow; therefore, treating the stomach is equivalent to treating the lungs.

[Comment] This formula originates from “Medical Orthodoxy,” created by adding tangerine peel and pinellia to the Four Gentlemen Soup from “Harmony Agent Bureau.” It can nourish the stomach and middle jiao while eliminating phlegm and drink. It’s a general-purpose formula for clinical treatment of lung-stomach coexistence.
