Ginseng 3 qian, Astragalus 3 qian, Atractylodes 3 qian, Licorice 1.5 qian, Angelica 3 qian, Rehmannia 4 qian, Jujube 3 qian, Fresh Ginger 3 slices, Polygala 1 qian, Cinnamon Heart 1 qian, Tangerine Peel 2 qian, White Peony 3 qian, Poria 3 qian, Schisandra 1 qian.

This formula is designed to extract the essence from the middle jiao and then nourish the heart to transform it into blood. Ginseng, Astragalus, Atractylodes, Licorice, and Jujube greatly tonify the middle jiao; when the middle jiao properly transforms grain into essence, more essence is produced, so Tangerine Peel is added to aid in this transformation. If water stagnates in the middle jiao, grain cannot be transformed, so Ginger and Poria are added to separate the water. Once water and grain are both transformed, the essence of the middle jiao naturally arises; then Angelica and Rehmannia are used to further increase the production of essence. For lactation promotion in women, this formula alone is sufficient. However, if one must also ensure that the heart transforms the essence into blood, then White Peony and Schisandra should be added to consolidate the blood, allowing it to circulate within the vessels rather than dispersing outward; Cinnamon Heart and Polygala are added to stimulate the heart fire, assisting in its transformation into red blood. Tonifying the middle jiao opens up the source of blood; guiding the heart transforms the blood; consolidating the vessels completes the function of blood. This treatment for insufficient heart fire is similar to Zhi Gancao Tang and Jianzhong Tang.

[Note] This formula originates from "Jufang." It tonifies the spleen and stomach to nourish the heart, using yang to generate yin and harmonizing the circulation of nutritive blood. It is suitable for patients with insufficient heart fire and dual deficiency of qi and blood.
