Although this formula contains many herbs, its main purpose is to moisten the lungs and clear fire. Anyone suffering from chronic cough and blood loss due to deficiency has insufficient yin essence in the lungs, which is exploited by excessive fire. When fire builds up internally, the skin and hair become tightly sealed, feeling chilly and prone to catching colds, easily inviting external pathogens. When fire is too strong, water essence stagnates, forming phlegm, making it harder for qi to flow, resulting in persistent cough and weakness. This formula uses honey, gelatin, rehmannia, angelica, lily, aristolochia, coix seed, licorice, aster, flower powder, farfara, and other herbs to generate yin essence and moisten the lungs, while schisandra, anemarrhena, and coix seed help clear fire. If there is concern that external cold might seal the lungs, preventing fire from being cleared, ginger, perilla, and mint are added to relieve the blockage. If phlegm and fluid stagnate, preventing fire from descending, fritillaria and coix seed are used to guide the flow. Once the blockage is relieved and the fire is cleared, the lungs are moistened, the cough improves, and the dryness disappears. Whether the cold turns into fire or the fire feels like cold, this formula can handle all situations. "Shi Yao Shen Shu" provides detailed instructions on how to modify this formula. I believe that since the formula already contains many herbs, further adjustments would only make it messy and ineffective. There are plenty of suitable formulas for specific conditions, so why insist on modifying this one, trying to cure every illness? Finally, it is made into pill form, taken with honey.
[Note] This formula originates from "Shi Yao Shen Shu." It moistens the lungs and clears fire. It treats conditions where the lungs lack yin essence and are overwhelmed by fire, leading to chronic cough and blood loss.
