Chen Xiuyuan strongly refuted (1) the fallacy of this formula, but the reason Xiuyuan was less adept at treating blood-related ailments was precisely this. It is evident that the main culprit behind blood loss lies in the uterus, and the uterine chong pulse belongs to the Yangming channel. In ordinary people, the Yangming middle burner transforms juice into blood, which is then transported via the chong pulse to the uterus. For those who vomit blood, the uterine fire moves upward, colliding with the Yangming channel, causing blood to overflow. Persistent coughing is often due to the chong yang colliding with the Yangming, creating this kind of hyperactive condition. This formula uses Gypsum and Anemarrhena to clear the heat of the Yangming, Achyranthes to counter the upward surge of qi, and Shu Di to nourish the yin of the uterus. By calming the dryness of the Yangming and regulating the qi of the chong pulse, this hyperactive condition can be alleviated. Jing Yue formulated this recipe but did not recognize its importance, and Xiuyuan further criticized it; Wang Shixiong (2), however, believed it could treat symptoms like yin deficiency, stomach fire, and toothache, all unaware of the formula's close connection to the chong pulse and its remarkable efficacy. Ophiopogon decoction treats chong reversal, which is a phlegm-clearing agent, while this formula treats chong reversal, which is a fire-clearing agent.

[Note] (1) Refute: to refute, to rebut. (2) Wang Shixiong: a Qing dynasty warm disease scholar. Author of "Warm Heat Compass," "Four Categories Simple Effective Formulas," etc.

[Note] The main function of this formula is to drain the fire of the Yangming, suppress the upward surge of chong qi, and nourish the water yin of the uterus, allowing chong qi to flow smoothly from the Yangming along the chong pulse down to the uterus, bringing blood back to its original place and curing blood-related ailments.
