Further Modifications to Xiao Luo Tang, November 22, 1977
Zhang Xichun’s Xiao Luo Wan is a classic formula for treating lymphadenitis. Bo Yuan Tang combined with frankincense, myrrh, Sparganium stoloniferum, and Curcuma zedoaria—recently, I read in the “New Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine” (Supplement, Issue 1, 1977) that Yan Rongke from Shanxi introduced a formula using whole house centipedes, claiming it was miraculous for treating lymphadenitis: 15g each of earthworms, bee hives, scorpions, centipedes, and pangolins (five centipedes). All ingredients were ground into 20 packets, to be taken morning and evening. This formula is effective for enlarged submandibular lymph nodes and thyroid nodules. Medicinal herbs for treating thyroid nodules include seaweed, Radix polygonati, Arisaema, kelp, Pinellia ternata, jade pieces, Aucklandia lappa, Curcuma zedoaria, and Prunella vulgaris. Recently, I read in a book on cancer prevention and treatment a formula specifically for treating thyroid enlargement: seaweed, Radix polygonati, Fritillaria cirrhosa, kelp, Xuanwu, oysters, Prunella vulgaris, earthworms, snake six grains, and snake mold.
