Yesterday, during a casual conversation with my cousin Guo Ziqiang, we mentioned my father’s Sangzhi Tang, which has consistently shown remarkable efficacy in treating rheumatoid arthritis. Cousin Ziqiang said that when he treated a patient with rheumatic heart disease complicated by joint pain in Yongdeng, two doses of this formula completely eliminated all symptoms. The composition of Sangzhi Tang is as follows: Mulberry twig 24g, Notopterygium incisum 9g, Saposhnikovia divaricata 9g, Stephania tetrandra 9g, Gentiana macrophylla 9g, Clematis armandii 9g, Qingfengteng 15g, Haifengteng 15g, Angelica sinensis 12g, Glycyrrhiza 6g. The formula’s effectiveness is so evident that I composed the following mnemonic: “Sangzhi eight qian, use two feng; Qin Fang two hu, Gui Xia ling.”
