Borax, boracic acid, alum, toothpaste, realgar. Mnemonic: Fan Fan Ya Sha Xiong Huang Mo, Equal Parts Pills Treat Plum Stone. This formula comes from “The Authentic Surgery,” and can be used to treat plum stone qi. Plum stone qi is phlegm qi that gets stuck in the throat, unable to be swallowed or spat out. It feels like a thorn pricking the throat, causing itching; sometimes it leads to acid reflux, sometimes to difficulty eating, and over time it forms a lump. The preparation method involves dividing each ingredient into equal parts, grinding them into powder, boiling red dates until soft, extracting the date paste to make pills, making them large enough to hold in the mouth, and taking one pill on an empty stomach, followed by a cup of warm yellow wine to help swallow. Inside, take Su Zi Decoction to descend qi.
