It has been 37 years since the University of Pittsburgh in the United States performed the first liver transplant. According to the latest statistics, the 1-year survival rate is 87%, the 3-year survival rate is 77%, and the 10-year survival rate is 60%. In recent years, the number of liver transplant patients in the United States has remained around 5,000 per year, but the supply of donor livers is significantly insufficient. New immunosuppressive agents like cyclosporine have shown excellent efficacy in preventing rejection during liver transplantation.
