Treatment of Chronic Renal Failure, August 1, 2003

For the treatment of chronic renal failure (CRF), I have tried Guifu Bawei pills combined with “four pairs of mountain berries and leeches, with leeches being the most reliable”—namely, rhubarb, processed aconite, sanleng, ezhushi, processed frankincense, myrrh, pangolin scales, soapberry spines, salvia miltiorrhiza, astragalus, cornelian cherry, goji berry, mulberry, leeches, and red fruit of the motherwort (motherwort, salvia, red peony, cardamom). Additionally, I have used rhubarb, processed aconite, and oyster powder for enemas. Recently, while reviewing “Modern Famous Doctors’ Case Records,” I came across the empirical formula of veteran TCM doctor Wang Rong from Sichuan: 15 g of Shi Wei, 15 g of loquat leaves, 15 g of polygonatum, 10 g of horsetail, 10 g of butterfly bush, 20 g of fish mint, 6 g of silkworm pupae, 10 g of fenugreek, 10 g of yin yang huo, 10 g of guizhi, 6 g of processed aconite, 10 g of cistanche, 10 g of ba ji tian, 6 g of cornelian cherry, 10 g of he shou wu, 12 g of sheng di huang, 10 g of dang gui, 20 g of astragalus, 3 g of deer antler velvet, and 20 g of mulberry. All ingredients are decocted in water and taken orally. The former focuses on promoting blood circulation, while the latter emphasizes strengthening yang.
