Clinical Applications of Deer Antler Velvet, August 1, 2003
Deer antler velvet refers to the unossified young antlers of male deer. Every year between March and April, the base of the antlers sheds, and the old antlers fall off, revealing newly grown, round, unossified antlers rich in blood and covered in soft fur—this is deer antler velvet. Typically, antler velvet is harvested by sawing, while antler velvet obtained by chopping off the head is called “chopped velvet.” Overall, this product is derived from the Governing Vessel, which is the pathway for yang energy in the human body.
