Brief Notes on Treating Chronic Nephritis, November 9, 1978
The rate of complete remission through traditional Chinese medicine alone is very low, only 4%–20%. In recent years, however, the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine has greatly increased the remission rate. For example, the PLA's 281st Hospital uses a combination of hormones, nitrogen mustard, and traditional Chinese medicine for treating chronic nephritis, achieving a complete remission rate of 86%. Over the past three years, there have been no recurrences. The PLA's 464th Hospital has also reported similar results. Typically, when treating chronic nephritis with a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, Western drugs such as hormones, nitrogen mustard, cyclophosphamide, and chloroquine are used. Among these drugs, hormones, nitrogen mustard, chloroquine, and traditional Chinese medicine are generally considered to have the highest and most stable efficacy, with a protein disappearance rate of 78.3%. ① Chloroquine is phosphochloroquine, originally a good drug for treating malaria, but in recent years it has also proven effective in treating collagen diseases. Each tablet contains 0.25g, taken twice daily, 0.25g each time, with a three-week course. ② Cyclophosphamide is an anti-cancer drug, but in recent years it has often been used to treat kidney diseases. Each coated tablet contains 50mg, and can be taken twice daily.
