Case of Chronic Nephritis—March 26, 1979

The difficulty of treating chronic nephritis is well known. In January 1979, Mr. Wang, a construction worker from the province, came for consultation. He had suffered from chronic nephritis for more than two years, with proteinuria (+++). Although he had tried hormones and cyclophosphamide, the effects were only temporary. I treated him with the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine's Yishen Tang combined with Yue Mei's Euryale ferox formulation.

Prescription: Angelica sinensis 10 g, Red peony root 6 g, Ligusticum chuanxiong 6 g, Peach kernel 10 g, Carthamus tinctorius 3 g, Motherwort 10 g, Salvia miltiorrhiza 10 g, Honeysuckle flowers 10 g, Forsythia suspensa 10 g, Taraxacum officinale 15 g, Isatis indigotica 10 g, Euryale ferox 30 g, Cuscuta chinensis 30 g, Polygonatum odoratum 24 g, Rosa laevigata 20 g, Loquat leaves 10 g, Yam 10 g, Lily bulb 10 g, Codonopsis pilosula 15 g, Atractylodes macrocephala 10 g, Poria cocos 6 g, Glycyrrhiza 6 g.

After taking five doses of the above formula, the patient's spirits improved, swelling disappeared, and proteinuria decreased to trace amounts.
