Adrenal cortical insufficiency on April 28, 1979

Prescription: Curculigo orchioides 12g, Epimedium 12g, whole Angelica sinensis 9g, peach kernel paste 9g, safflower 6g, Ligusticum chuanxiong 5g, Smilax glabra 12g, Poria cocos 9g, Psoralea corylifolia 12g, roasted malt 9g. Decoct in water and take one dose daily.

Indication: Adrenal cortical insufficiency.

Modifications: For those with low blood pressure, add purple quartz and deer antler glue; for qi deficiency, add Codonopsis pilosula; for blood deficiency, add Siwu Tang and Millettia reticulata; for cold limbs, add Danggui Sini Tang.

Note: This is Professor Zhang Boyu’s main prescription for treating adrenal cortical insufficiency. I found that Mr. Zhang also used this formula with modifications when treating thyroid insufficiency, specifically combining Erxian Tang with Yuebi Tang, adding Wuling San and raw rhubarb. From these treatments, we can preliminarily conclude that Erxian Tang promotes the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary system, making it suitable for individuals with dysfunction in this system. Although its effect appears similar to that of Bawei Wan at first glance, its actual mechanism differs from Bawei Wan.
