Zhang Boyu’s prescription for pancreatitis on April 29, 1979

Mr. Zhang mainly treats chronic recurrent pancreatitis with Guizhi Tang and Xiao Chaihu Tang, adding Xiangfu, Angelica sinensis, Hongteng, and Baijiangcao. This approach aligns with my own experience in treating this condition. I often use Chaihu Shugan San and Da Xiaojianzhong Tang. In fact, Xiaojianzhong Tang is essentially Guizhi Tang, and Chaihu Shugan San is essentially Xiao Chaihu Tang; only Hongteng and Baijiangcao are herbs I usually don’t use. Upon investigation, both of these herbs are excellent for treating appendicitis. Appendicitis is an inflammation of an organ, and pancreatitis is also an inflammation of an organ. Therefore, it’s clear that Hongteng and Baijiangcao may be effective against general organ inflammation!
