Don’t forget to tonify yang when treating headaches on March 15, 1980
Mr. Wang Shanxiu treats headaches by tonifying yang with Aconitum and Fuzi, often adding them to Chuanxiong Tea Adjusting Powder, or to Angelica dahurica Soup, or to Zuo Gui Wan, which greatly enhances the therapeutic effect. After all, the head is where all yang energies converge; if yang is deficient, there will be pain; if yin is deficient, there will be dizziness; and if yang is deficient, evil qi will gather. Angelica dahurica, Asarum sieboldii, Qianghuo, and Saposhnikovia divaricata are meant to expel evil qi, while Chuanxiong and Manjingzi are meant to disperse evil qi. Adding Aconitum and Fuzi not only tonifies yang but also reinforces the foundation, because wherever evil qi gathers, the qi must be weak.
