Case of Abdominal Pain of Unknown Cause 1980.12.10

Mr. Wang, male, 62 years old. Has had abdominal pain for five years, cause unknown. Pulse is deep, tongue is white and greasy.

Prescription: processed aconite 3g, fried ginger 3g, white atractylodes 9g, licorice 3g, pepper seeds 2g, evodia 3g, agarwood 5g, tangerine peel 6g.

After taking two doses of this medicine, the pain was gone. Upon investigation, this formula is a synthesis of Fuzi Lizhong Tang, Da Jianzhong Tang, Evodia Tang, and Yigong San. It removes the stagnation caused by codonopsis and adds the movement provided by agarwood, allowing the congealed cold pathogen to disperse suddenly. Although cold is caused by deficiency, deficiency is inherent and slow, while cold is superficial and urgent. This formula selects five main prescriptions for treating spleen and stomach deficiency-cold, removes codonopsis, adds agarwood, achieving a simultaneous attack and reinforcement, a rapid dispersal, exactly matching the principle of treating the symptom first when urgent. Therefore, the effect is immediate.
