Fangji Huangqi Tang with Ephedra for Treating Degenerative Knee Joint Disease 1986.6.1

Yasujiro Yatsukawa treated a 58-year-old female patient who was normally overweight but had lost weight to 66 kg through dieting. Six months ago, her left knee joint became deformed, swollen, and painful, accompanied by lower back pain. Western medical treatment for degenerative joint pain proved ineffective. Dr. Yatsukawa, having previously used Fangji and Huangqi to treat patients with obesity and fatigue, often saw positive results. He therefore added ephedra to this formula and increased rhubarb dosage to 10 g due to constipation. After one month of medication, the knee and lower back pain improved.
