Insights into the Treatment of Atrophic Gastritis, December 13, 1988

Previously, treatments for this condition often relied on bitter-cold, damp-drying, and qi-tonifying formulas such as Xiexin Tang, Liu Jun Zi Tang, and Xiangfu Liangjiang Ban Zhi Sha. Recently, however, it has been observed that many prescriptions in the Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine for treating this condition contain blood-activating and stasis-resolving herbs. Currently, formulations like Di Huang Liang Xiang, Wu Ma Jin Gan Huo Xiao Tang, Wu Yuan Cao Yao Tang, and Shixiao San are all known to promote blood circulation. Additionally, there are combinations such as San Zhu Wu Wu Pu Huang Rou, and Zhi Shi Dai Gui Xiao Ling Dan. In recent years, it has been discovered that to effectively relieve pain associated with atrophic gastritis, blood-activating and stasis-resolving formulas must be added—Di Huang Liang Xiang combined with San Leng and E Zhu, and Wu Yuan Cao Yao combined with Xiao Dan Shen have both shown remarkable efficacy in treating this condition.
