Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment for Subacute Thyroiditis, July 10, 1989

In the summer of the Ji-Si year, Director Wang of the Provincial Health Department suffered from this illness, with no improvement despite treatment by numerous doctors. Director Peng Xing of the Provincial People’s Hospital tried high-dose hormone therapy, which provided some relief but still resulted in recurrent fever and thyroid enlargement. Upon examination, the characteristic features of this condition include thyroid pain, intermittent fever, prolonged lack of cure, along with sweating, rapid heartbeat, fatigue, and weakened immunity. In some cases, hypothyroidism may also occur, and a few patients develop typical myxedema. While Western medicine can achieve good results with hormone therapy, traditional Chinese medicine offers effective treatment through syndrome differentiation and symptomatic adjustments.

I often use Longdan Xiegan Tang, Daotan Ruanjian Tang, Qinggu San, Chaihu Shugan San, and Taohong Siwu Tang with modifications, and have achieved remarkable results.
