Several Effective Formulas, July 28, 1989

  1. Chronic Glomerulonephritis
Patient: female, 17 years old. Urine protein (++++) and occult blood (++). Despite prolonged treatment, no improvement was seen.
I first administered penicillin injections for two weeks, while concurrently taking traditional Chinese medicine, which proved effective. I prescribed Longdan, Shan Zhi, Chaihu, Huangqin, Mutong, Huashi, Gancao, Fuling, Zexie, Cheqianzi, Shengdi Huang, Danggui, Guizhi, Danpi, Tao Ren, Bai Shao, and if necessary, Jinyinhua, Lianqiao, Pugongying, Baijiang Cao, Nüzhenzi, and Mo Han Lian. After more than 20 doses, urine protein decreased to (++), and occult blood to (+).

  2. Nodular Erythema
Patient: female, 60 years old. She had nodular erythema on her lower limbs for 20 years, repeatedly unhealed, with no improvement despite treatment by numerous doctors.
I diagnosed it as rheumatic stagnation with qi stagnation and blood stasis. I prescribed Guizhi, Bai Shao, Zhi Mu, Ganjiang, Gancao, Shengdi Huang, Fangfeng, Mahuang, Baishu, Fupian, Danggui, Chuanxiong, Tao Ren, Honghua, Niuxi, Huangqi, Dangshen, and other herbs. After more than 20 doses, remarkable improvement was observed.

  3. Chronic Nephritis
The patient had been suffering for a long time, with no improvement despite numerous medications. I prescribed Shengdi Huang, Shan Ju Yu, Shanyao, Danpi, Fuling, Zexie, Guizhi, Bai Shao, Tao Ren, Danggui, Baishu, Qianshi, Jin Ying Zi, and other herbs, and achieved good results. I believe that for treating chronic nephritis, Longdan Xiegan and Gui Fu Ba Wei can be used as base formulas, with modifications. The former is the main formula for acute exacerbations of chronic nephritis, while the latter is the specialized formula for routine treatment. During acute attacks, penicillin injections are added, and five-flavor disinfecting drink can be included in the traditional Chinese medicine regimen; during normal periods, insect-based medicines such as di long and chan tui can be added.

  4. Diabetes
I often use bamboo leaves, gypsum, banxia, mai dong, wu wei zi, zhi mu, huang qi, ji nei jin, tian hua fen, shanyao, ge gen, cang zhu, pugongying, chishao, dan shen, sheng di, jinyinhua, bai bu, taoren, ku shen, di fu zi, and other herbs, and have achieved good results.
