Xiangsu San for Treating Allergic Intestinal Syndrome, June 22, 1990
The Xiangsu Yin formula from “Heji Ju Fang,” originally used to treat “four-season epidemic typhoid fever,” has been widely applied to treat qi-stagnation colds. This article states that this formula can treat stubborn episodic abdominal pain or abnormal bowel movements. The author treated nine cases where other prescriptions had failed, achieving marked improvement in five cases and effective results in four. All treated cases exhibited difficulty in defecation (diarrhea or constipation) and abdominal pain. Both Japanese Kampo texts, “Wu Wu Yao Xian Fang Han Kou Jue” and “Jiao Chuang Fang Yi Jie,” document experience using this formula to treat refractory abdominal pain. The author believes that this formula is appropriate for patients presenting with the following symptoms: intermittent abdominal pain, feeling cold with flushed cheeks, soft abdomen, wiry and fine pulse, and tenderness under the xiphoid process accompanied by chest and flank distension.
