This formula is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription. Japanese practitioners have found it effective in treating gastric ulcers, gastritis, hypertension, Behçet’s syndrome, and other conditions. The “Journal of the Society for Japanese-Chinese Medicine” (June 1989) published a study by Morimoto Yumi et al., who used microcirculation research to discover that this formula causes constriction of superficial conjunctival vessels, reducing blood flow, while dilating deep vessels and increasing blood volume. At the same time, it also dilates small arteries throughout the body, lowering heart rate and blood pressure. This demonstrates that the formula has a favorable pathophysiological effect on local inflammation recovery, whether for peptic ulcers or atrophic gastritis, as it reduces inflammation to some extent at the lesion margins.
