Two Prescriptions for Herpes Zoster, July 8, 1991

  1. Internal prescription

Renowned dermatologist Zhu Renkang from the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s formula: Ma Chi Xian 60 g, Da Qing Ye 15 g, Pu Gong Ying 15 g. Decoct in water and take orally.

  1. External prescription

Senior physician Zhou Mingqi from the Third Hospital of Dalian City’s formula: Xiong Huang 20 g, Bai Pi 20 g, four centipedes, ground and sieved together, sealed in a bottle, mixed with sesame oil and applied to the affected area.

Note: These two prescriptions—one internal, one external—can be used simultaneously for herpes zoster. The disease is caused by a virus, distributed along nerves in the chest and waist, presenting as vesicular papules. The blisters often cause severe nerve-ending pain before and after eruption. Traditional Chinese medicine calls it “缠腰火丹” or “赤游丹.” The compositions of the aforementioned two prescriptions are well-reasoned and highly effective.
