Traditional Chinese Medicine Infusion for Liver Cirrhosis, July 30, 1992
I usually treat portal hypertension-related liver cirrhosis using Dan Zhi Xiao Yao San, Qiang Gan Tang, Ping Wei San, Liu Jun Tang, Jin Che Dan Qi Tang, Si Miao San, and Yi Yin Jian, adjusting the dosages as needed. Recently, observing how renowned experts like Jiang Chunhua and Yin Huihe treat this condition, I noticed they consistently add Dang Gui, Chi Shao, Tao Ren, Hong Hua, Quan Xie, leeches, oysters, and pangolin scales—essentially incorporating Tao Hong Si Wu and adding four insects. Liver disease specialists also frequently use Wu Ling Zhi, Yan Hu Suo, Jiu Xiang Chong, processed frankincense, myrrh, Wang Bu Liu Xing, San Leng, and E Zhu. For treating ascites, it’s recommended to use Pan Tao Wan (“Shou Shi Bao Yuan”): 9 g each of Chen Xiang, Mu Xiang, frankincense, and myrrh, 2 g of amber, 2 g each of black and white ugly ones, 30 g of betel nut, all ground into fine powder, mixed with soap water to form pills about the size of a paulownia seed, taking 8 g per dose, washed down with white sugar syrup at dawn.
