Post-Cholecystectomy Syndrome, January 3, 1994
This condition is frequently encountered in patients after cholecystectomy. Its characteristics include radiating pain from the gallbladder area to the shoulders and back, aversion to fatty foods, and symptoms similar to chronic cholecystitis. Researchers at the Shanghai Institute of Digestive Diseases, led by Chen Xiaoxing, conducted experimental studies and concluded that patients with this syndrome exhibit spasm of the Oddi sphincter, increased peristaltic waves in the bile ducts, and elevated basal pressure within the ducts. Additionally, the blood gastrin levels in the abdominal pain group were significantly higher than in the pain-free group, indicating that increased gastrin levels are related to elevated basal pressure in the bile ducts, both of which are important components of endocrine regulation in the digestive system.
