Helicobacter pylori and duodenal ulcer—January 14, 1994
As previously mentioned, Helicobacter pylori is closely related to atrophic gastritis, and recent studies have also shown a clear connection with duodenal ulcers. LevⅠ et al. believe that in individuals infected with this bacterium, the release of urease and the production of ammonia in the gastric mucosa increase the pH level of the mucosal layer, thereby causing an inappropriate increase in gastrin secretion. This gastrin can directly stimulate parietal cells to secrete gastric acid; excessive gastric acid secretion can lower the pH of the duodenal bulb, leading to ulcer formation.
