The Important Role of Modern Nutrition in Disease Prevention and Treatment 1994.2.17

The functions of nutrition should include the following aspects: ① prevention and treatment of nutritional deficiency diseases; ② alleviation of symptoms related to nutrition and diet; ③ promotion of human health, especially the physical and mental well-being of infants and young children, including enhancement of immune function. Currently, the main focus of nutrition is preventing diseases caused by nutritional excess, such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, tumors, obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. Such disorders can lead to changes in nutritional status. Among hospitalized patients, protein-calorie deficiency accounts for 60%.
