Motherwort is an annual or biennial herb of the Lamiaceae family, traditionally used to activate blood circulation, regulate menstruation, promote diuresis, and reduce swelling. In recent years, reports have shown that it can treat coronary heart disease, hemolytic anemia, nephritis, central retinitis, and acute phlebitis. Since all these conditions are related to allergic reactions, and given that Mahingcao has exactly the same pharmacological effects as motherwort, Mahingcao also possesses these therapeutic properties.
