Reconsideration of Suoyang on August 5, 1995
This medicine is the whole plant of Suoyang, a member of the Suoyang family, and has the dual effects of consolidating essence and strengthening the stomach. A famous prescription is Jin Suo Gu Jing Wan: Sha Yuanzi, Euryale ferox, lotus stamen, Suoyang, dragon bone, oyster shell, lotus seed—made into pills and taken with saltwater soup. The characteristic of this formula is the harmonization of yin and yang: Euryale ferox and lotus seed come from water, representing yin; Suoyang and Sha Yuanzi grow in arid desert regions, representing yang; dragon bone ascends to the nine heavens, representing yang, while oyster shell roams the five oceans, representing yin.
