Major Breakthrough in Chronic Pancreatitis—November 21, 1995
In the autumn of the Year of the Water Pig, Ms. Liu suffered from chronic pancreatitis. I treated her with modified Chai Hu Shu Gan, and the major illness was cured, but she still experienced nerve-related pain from the left flank up to the neck, which stubbornly persisted despite medication. I reasoned that for nerve-related pain, it would be beneficial to add one centipede, six grams of scorpion, three grams of white angelica root, three grams of asarum, and six grams of woodruff, combining these with the modified Chai Hu Shu Gan formula. After seven doses, significant relief was achieved. Why does chronic pancreatitis cause nerve pain? Upon investigation, this patient had a history of recurrent acute pancreatitis, suggesting a high likelihood of localized pancreatic necrosis. If necrosis exists, it may adhere to the nerves in the lumbar region to some extent, thereby causing pain from the left flank and lower back up to the neck.
