Huoxiang Zhengqi San and Jiuwei Qianghuo Wan January 3, 1996
Both formulas are traditional prescriptions—one treats exterior wind-cold combined with interior damp stagnation, while the other addresses wind-cold exterior pattern with concurrent interior heat. During the winter of the Year of the Pig, a woman experienced persistent epigastric fullness and loss of appetite for over a month. She took one pill of Huoxiang Zhengqi Wan, and all symptoms disappeared, remarking that the medicine was miraculous. Another woman suffered from cold-induced headache and fever; after taking one pill of Jiuwei Qianghuo Wan, she reported that half of her illness had subsided. Although I had long held these two formulas in high regard, they were rarely used clinically. Based on the above two cases, however, these two medicines are indeed appropriate for immediate use.
