Leech Therapy for Chronic Nephritis and Renal Insufficiency, August 31, 1996
Fang Xinsheng from the Zhuzhou Smelter Workers' Hospital in Hunan Province reported: 30 g astragalus, 30 g salvia, 10 g cornelian cherry, 10 g mulberry, 10 g rhubarb, 6 g fuzi, 30 g motherwort, 30 g plantago, 15 g honeysuckle, 15 g white snake tongue grass, 30 g goji berries, and 30 g leeches (separately). The leeches are ground into powder, sieved, and taken in three doses. This formula can be named "Renal Failure Mixture." It consists of four pairs of medicinal ingredients: 30 g astragalus, 30 g salvia; 30 g motherwort, 30 g plantago, 15 g honeysuckle, 15 g white snake tongue grass; 10 g rhubarb, 10 g fuzi, and so on. Plus three small fruits—mulberry, cornelian cherry, and goji berries—and one leech. Mnemonic: Four pairs, three fruits, leech is the most reliable. According to "Compendium of Materia Medica," leeches treat edema and detoxify. Qi Zhiyong from the Suizhou Central Hospital in Hebei Province reported that, based on syndrome differentiation, adding leeches to the treatment of chronic nephritis and renal insufficiency yields definite results.
