Clinical Experience with Gastric Motility Drugs, August 28, 1996
The function of gastric motility drugs is to promote gastrointestinal peristalsis. Tong Xiaolin from the China-Japan Friendship Hospital refers to the most commonly used traditional Chinese gastric motility medicines as "Small Trio" and "Small Quintet." The Small Trio includes zhishi, erchou, and da huang; the Small Quintet adds zhike and binlang. Generally, zhishi is used for the esophagus; zhishi combined with binlang and muxiang is used for the stomach; erchou and binlang are used for the small intestine; and da huang is used for the large intestine. Typically, the Small Trio is used for the gastrointestinal tract, while the Small Quintet is used for the large intestine.
