Clinical Trials of Xiaofeng Chushi Pill, September 7, 1996

During the Bingzi summer, a patient with nephrotic syndrome in the ward did not respond to hormone therapy. They were treated with traditional Chinese medicine formulas such as Yishen Tang, Guizhi Fuling Wan, Wumei Xiaodu Yin, and Ma Shi Yi Gan Tang, reducing the erythrocyte sedimentation rate from 90 mm/h to 10 mm/h. However, urinary protein remained at three pluses. About two weeks before discharge, they took two Xiaofeng Chushi Pills orally three times daily, and their condition markedly improved, with urinary protein dropping to one plus. They were then allowed to take the medicine home for continued treatment. Another outpatient with nephrotic syndrome received ineffective treatment at the provincial people's hospital, using up to 12 hormone tablets (60 mg), yet urinary protein remained above three pluses and edema persisted. After taking Xiaofeng Chushi Pill for only two weeks, their urinary protein completely disappeared. Patient Li Hui was diagnosed with dermatomyositis, with an erythrocyte sedimentation rate of 110 mm/h, joint pain, stiff and numb skin, and muscle pain most pronounced on the face and neck. Initially, they took Guizhi Shaoyao Zhimu Tang, Danggui Liu Huang Tang, and Ma Xing Yi Gan Tang combined with Aconitum carmichaelii and Aconitum kusnezoffii, each 15 g, boiled for 60 minutes, then switched to Xiaofeng Chushi Pill. Within two weeks, their erythrocyte sedimentation rate returned to normal.
