Thyroid Nodules—June 15, 1997
Thyroid nodules are usually classified as: ①thyroid cysts; ②thyroid adenomas; ③thyroid fibroids (often formed by chronic inflammation); ④thyroid inflammatory nodules; ⑤thyroid cancer. Radioactive isotope examination is recommended for diagnosis. This disease is divided into four types: hot, warm, cool, and cold. Warm and hot types are benign, while cool and cold types have a higher possibility of malignancy. The male-to-female ratio is 2:1. Treatment involves taking thyroxine (T4) 50mg three times a day, orally; thyroxine 20mg three times a day, orally; thyroid tablets 25mg three times a day, orally. Surgery is the main treatment, radiotherapy is auxiliary, and chemotherapy is only performed when surgery or radiotherapy cannot be carried out or have reached their maximum capacity.
