Urotrat Treatment for Non-gonococcal Urethritis, August 14, 1997

Urotrat consists of: polygonatum rhizome 30 g, Chinese yam 30 g, herba lycopodioides 30 g, motherwort 30 g, plantago seeds 30 g, eclipta prostrata 30 g, rush 10 g, and licorice 6 g. Decocted in water to make a concentrated extract, then formulated into granules for oral administration, two packets per day, taken in two doses. Non-gonococcal urethritis is mostly caused by mycoplasma or chlamydia infections, falling under the category of sexually transmitted diseases, and is often resistant to antibiotics. Among American-made drugs, minocycline has the best efficacy, reaching 91.41%; tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, josamycin, and norfloxacin only achieve 70%–80% effectiveness; rifampicin ranks second among effective antibacterial drugs, with a clinical efficacy of 90.75%, which is a rare clinical achievement. Urotrat is a research result of Dr. Liao Yuanxing from the General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region, and its composition can be remembered by the mnemonic: “Yellow Mountain, Gold, Lotus, Motherwort (Rush),” which can also be expressed as: “Six Herbs of Yellow Mountain, Dan.”
