Metoclopramide and Domperidone, November 17, 1997
Both inhibit dopamine receptors (located in the emetic center of the medulla oblongata), thereby stopping vomiting and reducing the secretion of gastric juice and gastric acid. At the same time, they also accelerate gastric emptying and reduce bile reflux. Side effects include insomnia, drowsiness, and Parkinson's syndrome. Domperidone works on exactly the same mechanism as metoclopramide, but its effect is 23–27 times stronger. Although the effect is strong, clinical efficacy has not been fully demonstrated; the dosage is the same as metoclopramide, but there is no injectable form, only suspension and suppository.
