Applications of Aloe Vera, January 1, 1998

It is the juice exuded from the cut surface of the leaves of the evergreen aloe plant of the Liliaceae family, concentrated through boiling and decoction, with a bitter taste and cold nature. It is usually formulated into pills, while decoctions are rarely used. ①Purgative: Its purgative effect is no different from that of rhubarb, but even stronger! ②Anthelmintic: Compared with Shijun, Binglang, Leiwán, and Chuannianzi, its anthelmintic effect is much stronger. ③Clearing Heat and Draining Fire: Similar to Shan Zhi, Huanglian, and Huangqin. Given these three effects, this medicine is a miraculous remedy for pediatric malnutrition; however, due to its foul and unpleasant odor that induces nausea, it is only formulated into pills and not used in decoctions.
