Qiyu Tang for Treating Aphasia, January 2, 1998

Qiyu Tang (Bai Fuzi 15 g, Honghua 6 g, Tianma 6 g, Shichangpu 6 g, Yuanzhi 8 g, Danshen 10 g, Xixin 3 g, Jiangcan 8 g, Quanxie 3 g, Dan Nanxing 6 g, Jiegeng 8 g, Banxia 8 g, Gancao 6 g) is suitable for aphasia where hearing is still intact, such as post-encephalitis or post-stroke aphasia. Bai Fuzi, Dan Nanxing, and Banxia belong to the same family and genus (Araceae), all being excellent for dispelling wind-phlegm, relieving acute spasms, promoting blood circulation, and treating stroke; Jiegeng and Gancao are components of the famous Jiegeng Tang from "Jingui Yaolue," specifically designed for those with pharyngeal phlegm obstruction and difficulty in expectoration. The two insects (Quanxie and Jiangcan) relieve spasms and dispel wind, complementing Jiegeng Tang perfectly. Changpu, Yuanzhi, Tianma, Danshen, and Honghua promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, making them ideal for treating post-stroke sequelae.

Mnemonic: Dan Nanxing, Bai Fuzi, and Banxia together; Yuanzhi, Changpu, Danshen, and Huashua; Jiegeng Tang includes two insects and Xixin; for post-stroke aphasia, speech can be restored.
