Bone Metastatic Cancer, July 5, 1998

Eighty-five percent of bone metastases originate from breast cancer, prostate cancer, and lung cancer. Two-thirds of breast cancer cases, half of prostate cancer cases, and one-third of lung cancer cases can develop bone metastases. Bone metastases primarily occur in the proximal parts of long bones, followed by the spine. Clinically, bone pain is the main manifestation, and pathological fractures may also occur, though they are relatively rare. Treatment mainly relies on chemotherapy and radiotherapy, with surgery seldom used. In recent years, radionuclide therapy has gained popularity, becoming the optimal choice for treating bone metastases.
