Treatment of Bone Metastatic Cancer, November 5, 1998

Xin Lanying had lung cancer with bone metastases, experiencing severe pain. She was injected with pethidine 4–5 times daily, developing some addiction. After chemotherapy and radiotherapy proved ineffective, she received a static injection of 3 mCi of ^89^strontium isotope, and within a week, the pain significantly eased, allowing her to be discharged! She was instructed to return for a follow-up six months later. This case involved highly differentiated adenocarcinoma, with a disease course lasting three years, negative biopsy results, and negative tumor marker tests. Initially, it was thought to be an inflammatory pseudotumor, which improved after anti-inflammatory treatment, but eventually bone metastases appeared. A percutaneous lung puncture confirmed highly differentiated lung adenocarcinoma, demonstrating that even highly differentiated cancers can metastasize.
