Treatment of Functional Dyspepsia Associated with Helicobacter pylori Infection 1999.4.1
The relationship between Helicobacter pylori and peptic ulcers, chronic gastritis, and gastric cancer is well known; however, its connection with functional dyspepsia still requires further investigation. According to the second issue of the Chinese Journal of Internal Medicine in 1999, antibacterial drugs such as amoxicillin, metronidazole, and litorin were used to inhibit Hp, resulting in noticeable improvements in functional dyspepsia (FD). This discovery provides strong support for the long-held Traditional Chinese Medicine belief that “bitterness can strengthen the stomach.” Huanglian enters the stomach meridian, stating, “When there is heat in the chest and pathogenic factors in the stomach, accompanied by abdominal pain and an urge to vomit, Huanglian Tang is the primary remedy”; Banxia Xie Xin Tang treats palpitations and epigastric fullness; and Li Dongheng’s Qing Wei San, which includes Huanglian, all reflect the fact that Traditional Chinese Medicine has long anticipated and prepared for the inhibition of Hp. How does the change in tongue coating relate to Hp? Yellow, white, and greasy coatings represent three distinct attributes—heat, cold, and dampness—and how do they manifest in the gastrointestinal tract and throughout the body? Further research is planned in the future.
