Portal Hypertension and Gastric Mucosal Microcirculatory Disorders 1999.5.12

According to the "Journal of Microcirculation" (Issue 1, 1999), in cases of portal hypertension, the gastric mucosa exhibits obvious congestion, edema, tortuosity and dilation of veins, focal thickening of the mucosa, diffuse dilatation of capillaries, and cellular exudation, but inflammatory changes are relatively rare—this is markedly different from typical ulcers and gastritis. At the same time, the secretory function of the gastric mucosa increases, with a tendency for gastric acid secretion to rise, so patients usually experience abdominal pain, bloating, loss of appetite, vomiting, and loose stools.
