Pelvic Venous Congestion Syndrome, December 12, 1999
The patient’s lower limbs sometimes appear cyanotic, most noticeably when hanging down. Various examinations were conducted at the Gansu Provincial People’s Hospital, including Doppler ultrasound, which showed no lower limb venous thrombosis, and no obvious abnormalities in the heart, lungs, or gastrointestinal tract barium meal. Previously, I had tried Chuanliu Heji, Si Shui Heji, and Simiao San, but none of these treatments were effective. Later, an ultrasound at Lanzhou Second Hospital revealed small uterine fibroids and a small amount of fluid in the pelvis. The patient also complained of lower abdominal distension, and digestive medications such as cisapride were ineffective. I suddenly realized that this might be pelvic inflammation, could it be diagnosed as pelvic venous congestion syndrome? So I formulated a combination of Guizhi Fuling Wan, Wuling Heji, and Xiao Hui Xiang San: Guizhi, Fu Ling, Dan Pi, Tao Ren, Bai Shao, Wu Yao, Chuan Lian Zi, Yu Jin, Rou Cong Rong, Yan Hu Suo, Da Fu Pi, Jiang Huang, Mu Xiang, Tan Xiang, Chen Xiang, Da Huang, Chen Pi, Dang Gui, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Cardamom, San Leng, E Zhu, Gan Jiang, Fu Pian, Pu Huang, Wu Ling Zhi, and Xiao Hui Xiang. All ingredients were decocted and taken orally, one dose daily. After ten doses, the lower limb swelling significantly improved, and the cyanosis of the lower limbs also disappeared!
