A Wonderful Remedy for Enlarged Tonsils—January 27, 2000

In the Ji Mao year, Director Peng Xiaozhong visited me. During our casual conversation, he mentioned that 20 years ago his father had treated his enlarged tonsils and difficulty swallowing with Western medicine, but to no avail. His father then wrote down a prescription: Ma Bo 30g, She Pi 30g, ground into powder and taken in small doses. After three doses, his throat pain greatly subsided, and he was able to eat normally again. Director Peng said this formula was truly miraculous. Upon investigation, Ma Bo alone is an excellent remedy for sore throat, clearing heat, detoxifying, reducing swelling, and dispersing nodules; She Pi is likely the skin of a black snake, a wonderful ingredient for dispelling wind and removing dampness. After all, wind is the only thing that can reach the top of the head, and She Pi’s wind-dispelling and throat-swelling-relieving effects are well known, yet rarely used today.
